Overlooking Lake Shikotsu: A Hidden Onsen Resort to Unwind with the Morning Sun

Marukoma Onsen Ryokan: The hot spring source discovered by the first-generation Sasaki Hatsutaro in the fourth year of the Taisho era still boasts abundant spring water and is beloved for its quality. The natural open-air baths, scenic open-air baths, and indoor baths all offer a panoramic view of Lake Shikotsu, making the scenery a point of pride for our hot springs. The "authentic Finnish-style sauna with a löyly (steam) option" adjacent to the large communal bath is a full-fledged facility that impresses sauna enthusiasts. It promotes sweating even at low temperatures with löyly, making it a sauna with less strain on the body. The cold bath uses the water of Lake Shikotsu, which has been ranked as the best water in Japan for 11 consecutive years, flowing generously. Additionally, for your precious "relaxation time," outdoor air bath chairs are placed facing the breathtaking views of the national park. The natural open-air baths, which are said to be found only in about twenty places nationwide, spring up from the ground at the same water level as Lake Shikotsu. They are located outside the lakeside area of the men’s and women’s large communal baths, offering the same stunning national park view of Lake Shikotsu from the scenic open-air baths. The private baths with barrel saunas can be enjoyed privately by families or groups.
